Proposed Technology Center to Provide Comprehensive Solutions for Traffic and Drainage Issues

Hyderabad, December 29:: The GHMC, in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Division of NIT Warangal, is planning to establish a state-of-the-art Technology Center to address critical urban challenges such as traffic congestion and drainage management. This initiative aims to deliver modern, practical, and sustainable solutions, incorporating them at the planning stage itself.

The Traffic and Transportation division of the center will conduct in-depth analyses of the city’s traffic patterns and transportation systems. It will develop innovative and up-to-date solutions for traffic management, infrastructure optimization, and transportation planning to meet Hyderabad’s growing urban needs.

The Drainage Information Center will undertake a comprehensive study of Hyderabad’s entire drainage network, including NALAs (stormwater drains). Detailed mapping, measurements, and assessments will be conducted, enabling the center to propose professional and technical solutions to mitigate flooding and enhance drainage efficiency.

During a meeting at the GHMC headquarters, Commissioner Ilambarithi emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between GHMC and NIT Warangal to define the framework and objectives of the project. Professor Prasad from NIT Warangal suggested entering into a structured agreement to ensure sustained operations. The Commissioner directed engineering officials to prepare the necessary guidelines and agreements to formalize the collaboration.

The proposed center will operate within a university campus, leveraging the expertise of NIT Warangal’s faculty and postgraduate students. The Commissioner highlighted the significance of combining academic research with practical urban solutions to create a technically sound and sustainable approach to infrastructure planning.

This initiative builds on NIT Warangal’s previous contributions, such as providing project reports on traffic and urban infrastructure issues in Hyderabad. GHMC remains committed to fostering partnerships with leading institutions to address the city’s evolving urban challenges.

The meeting was attended by Project Chief Engineer Devanand, Maintenance Chief Engineer Bhaskar Reddy, and other key officials.
